"My House," Says the Lord, "Shall Be a House of Prayer"

At Highland Park Baptist Church, we are seeking to fulfill the expectation of Jesus that the Church is to be a "house of prayer."

We realize this doesn't mean just being a building where people pray, but rather it means becoming a "people of prayer."

Our commitment to the Lord and His people here at Highland Park:

  • Provide resources which encourage and help us to pray.
  • Provide a variety of times and formats for prayer so that people can choose when and where to become involved.
  • Maintain an active list of those needing prayer, with follow-up reports on ways God has answered.
  • Make prayer a central element of our worship and corporate life -- not simply one of many things we do together, but a key element of our gatherings.

We urge each of you -- take advantage of any opportunity to enter into a deeper life of prayer.  God has made us partners with Himself in accomplishing His will on the earth -- when we pray, He works!

Quarterly Prayer Breakfast

This event is generally scheduled in January, April, June, and September.  Its purpose is to pray, to fellowship, to pray, to learn, to pray, and to eat (not necessarily in that order -- we usually eat first -- after a short prayer of course!).

Fellowship Prayer Groups

These are small groups who meet together at church or in homes on a regular basis to pray together.  These are not under the direction of the Prayer Partners Council.

Although there are times when our church "plans" for a season of small group prayer meetings (usually for 6-8 weeks at a time), more often a group will spring up spontaneously as someone is led to invite other members to join them in meeting together to pray.

Some of these are always open to new people joining them; other groups limit their size or when new folks can join them.

If you'd like to find a small group to pray with, speak to Ben Dickerson, the Associate Pastor for Prayer Ministries.

Becoming a Prayer Partner

  1. Prayerfully consider the various aspects of the Prayer Ministry described above, asking the Lord to guide you where you might become involved.
  2. Contact Ben Dickerson, Associate Pastor for Prayer Ministries, and discuss with him how you can get started.  OR
  3. Attend any scheduled prayer event, such as one of our Quarterly Prayer Breakfasts.

"But those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not faint."  Isaiah 40:31

Faith, Prayer, and Healing

What is the role of faith and prayer in healing? Is the church as important as the hospital in cases of sickness and disease? If you want to know more or would like prayer for your own healing, we invite you to join us for a time of teaching and prayer in the Fellowship Hall following our worship serivce on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month. (Because we share a light meal first, please RSVP to the Dickersons.)
